Worst Morning Of My Life... My Car Is Ruined
It's late, so I'll make this short. I was on my way home from my girlfriend's around midnight. Driving down the highway to my house (It was pretty dark, so I reached down to find the panel dimmer switch.) No sooner did I look back up again (my eyes were only diverted for like half a second, but as you can see that's all it takes) than this ******* doe was about 4 feet in front of me, bounding across the 4 lane divided highway at full speed.
The impact was hard, and I think for a second I might have even closed my eyes. The car pulled hard left, but I just remembered my drivers training and kept control and slowed down gently. Looking out front again, I knew it was bad before I even got the car stopped. My hood was shattered all over the place, and the headlight was flickering until it finally died. After crawling out the window due to the door not opening (I know I could have gone to the other side, but after something like this you don't think straight.) I called my Mom right away and her and my Dad raced over. (I was only 5 mins from home - chew on that.)
The rest is history I suppose. I went back and picked up what pieces I could find, like my ****-covered mirror and what's left of my headlight. I work at a body shop and I can say it's probably around the $4-6000 range.
The good thing is I wasn't hurt, and the bags didn't pop. Another foot to the right and that thing would have been through my windshield. Look at the middle of the hood i nthe pics - those are hoofmarks.
Well, off to bed now. I've got to work in 5 hours. If I can sleep that is.

Well, you're okay. That's good.
It looks like it's all repairable damage, but I guess you'll find out in the morning..
What's gonna happen with insurance?
I'd be pretty bummed. Not just cause of the car even, but the deer, at least for a few minutes.

dude, i will say first and foremost that i know nothing of insurance, but whether or not your eyes are on the road, an 'act of god' is exactly that! you can't stop the deer from running. i've killed small animals and birds with my car (hence my grille has a hairline crack now), and almost hit a young buck doing 55 mph...slammed to a stop and f-ed up brakes a little. but just see if insurance will cover any of it, tell them you hit a dough on the interstate, had no time to react, and see what they can do about replacing everything to stock without your insurance going up much... a HELL of a lot cheaper than paying for the parts. good luck bud, i'm truely sorry it had to happen to one of the best of us.
peace bro.. hang in there

Thank you all for the sympathies. It may not seem like it to you, but it's a great help to me. I'm pretty bummed about this whole thing right now, and the sympathies make it just a little easier.
I've got a $3000 deductable on my insurance, so I'm gonna be out of pocket a bit on this one, but we'll have to see where I sit when the dust settles. In retrospect, I'm still alive. I heard if those things come through the windshield you can be killed.
Thanks again guys.

I'm very sorry about your car! As everyone says, good thing you're ok. Would've been way worse if it was moose.
I had only one deer-on-road encounter myself, and I was able to change lanes out of the way and had enough distance to stop, but it was still scary.
Just curious, do you remember the speed did you hit the doe at?
Well, I feel for ya man.. hope you walk away with the smallest repair bill possible... $3000 ded. -- whoa, my finance company wouldn't let me exceed $500.
Keep us posted on how this works out

First off, glad you are ok. Secondly, sorry about the car, but like others have said it looks like it is definatley repairable. But $3000 Ded? What were you thinking. Why would anyone go over a $500 Ded. I know your insurance must be cheap with that high of one, but ****!

i don't know how canadian car insurance works, but in US collisions with a wild animal are covered under your comprehensive coverage.
were you able to drive the car home, or did you have to have it towed?

**** DOOD!!! Sorry to hear that, if you would have given me a call last night, I would have raced down man, I was up....Good to hear you are OK though, but look on the bright side, that new bumper you wanted, well you got it . It's a good thing the deer hit the front side and didn't come barreling through the windshield...I heard yesterday on the radio last night that someone hit a deer on Crow....didn't think it would be you

Looks just like the damage done when I hit a lightpole. Doesnt really look too bad in these pics. New hood, quarterpanel, light and mirror. I cant see how that is 3000+. I paid half that here in Iceland. I guess that theres more damage than I can see. Good luck.

holy **** dude......deers suck ***, i ran over one once, the guy in front of me hit it, and i was following too close and couldnt get around it....the leg hit my license plate and damn near bent it in half, and it scraped up a bunch of my piping, but other than that no damage done....my fiance almost hit one just a couple weeks ago, we were driving home after a movie at like 12.30 and i saw about 4 deer on the side of the road, looking like they were gonna run out, and i started saying "deer, deer, deeer.." with increased intensity, she thought i was calling her "dear" and almost hit it before i realized what i was saying......she had only had the car for less than a month when she almost wrecked it.....
good luck man.
