So the car is almost a year and he decided to put a air intake on it. I think it was ractive and only costed about $120 or so. I think in that same week, his engine blew. He took it to his mechanic first and his mechanic said it was the intake.

Here's one example from my friend:
In '98 or '99, my friends girl bought a new '97 (2nd gen)1.5l protege. He was doing exterior mods at first then he finally decided to do a little something to the engine. So the car is almost a year and he decided to put a air intake on it. I think it was ractive and only costed about $120 or so. I think in that same week, his engine blew. He took it to his mechanic first and his mechanic said it was the intake.
At that point in time, another 1.5l engine was somewhere around $3000-/+. (Remember, he only paid about $120 for the intake). To make it worst, it wasn't actually his car, it was his girls. And he didn't have $3000 to throw out like that. So he took the intake off and took it to the dealer.
Even though the dealership found out and he ended up buying a completely new engine, I sympathized with him. He was young, worried, and broke. A $120 dollar intake, costed him $3000. And don't forget installation. The dealership understood his situation and they iare still welcomed there today.
This is why I sympathize with the WRX guy.

So then he takes it to the dealer after taking the intake off.
The dealer replaced it I assume, under warranty.
You said "even though the dealership found out and he ended up buying a completely new engine"
Gives me the impression that you're saying it was either replaced under warranty or going to be replaced under warranty until the dealer found out??
Why did he/she take it to another mechanic in the first place??

Wow, a ractive intake caused his engine to blow? How did that happen? Do you have any more details?

Not sure if I understood him then, but he said something like the air consumption was too much, or something like that.

Unfortunately for him and his girl, the dealership didn't cover it. He ended up buying a new engine from his pocket, but one of the mechanics from the dealership help him through his delima. (giving him info to where get cheaper parts, small discounts, etc.)
I hope that clear things up.

eggynattey evolved from a squirel
sorry, couldn't resist that one......
Anyways I think that 'statsman' on the other forum is one of those a$$holes that aren't satisfied with their own lives and feel the need to ruin someone else's.
A situation like this happens what..... a few times a year?
10,000$ is nothing to Subaru, however 3,000$ is an insane amount of money to pay up to fix your car.
A) I hope that the guy doesn't get charged with fraud
B) I hope he starts taking the bus for a while
We must remember that having a car is a privilege and so I don't feel bad for him cause he won't be able to drive his car, but rather because he'll get charged, etc....

Well if you are dum enough to come on the forum and yap about how you got away with frauding a dealership , then you deserve to be reported,
think about it like this
if he never came on the forum and told anyone all about his damn mods and how he took everything off and had the dealer fix his car , like a as@ , he would not have been reported by anyone , cause noone would have known ,, but oh well he sighned that letter saying he had no mods , so he is fuc@ed either way i guess.....

"Three men can keep a secret - if two of them are dead"
This stupid kid got what he deserved. The forum members were right for reporting him.
NOTHING is FREE in this world! "Warranty" work gets paid by someone - and the fact is, EVERY SINGLE member of that forum would have to pay for that kid's engine, in one way or another. When you rip off the "system", all the moral members of that system pay for your greed.
It's the same with insurance fraud - which is all this story really is, anyway.
Even though you can't "teach" morality to someone, maybe this dumbass will at least learn what NOT to brag about.
