Do u need the rails along the top or the just the cross bars i have the cross bars if intrested in that

 

I spent a lot of time at the dealer researching putting a OEM roof rack on a '03 P5. Long story short it can't be done, according to them. They told me that the 2003's do not have the same roof structure as previous models. Mazda cut costs by eliminating extra bracing and not eliminating the runners on the roof which would have required redesigning the roof. I doubt it was lip-service either because I told them that I had wanted to buy the rack and put it on my '03. Your best bet would be to buy a Yakima or Thule rack. I know everyone's worried about those types of racks scratching the paint but if you're careful with installation and removal your paint will be fine. The OEM bike rack attachment from the dealer is a Yakima rack anyway. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I think as long as you buy the rails also, the rack will work. I've heard that the reason that they cut out the rack for `03 was excessive wind noise at high speeds. The roof structure i.e. sheet metal is the same from '02 to '03.

That's odd, I have a 2003 and mine came with the roofrack. I just told them not to install it, so they gave it to me in the box.
