You have to take the parts to the shop. I havent found a single shop that will take the parts off for you. I was lucky since most of the parts I could drive without -- except for the valve cover -- which a friend of mine was generous enough to lend me his spare. So, I had it all chromed, swapped the borrowed chromed one out for my stock, and I am returning my stock one to him.

hey guys,

unless he's willing to take all the chromed parts off and clean it on a regular basis, it's gonna start peeling. i've seen some domestics with chrome plated valve covers go through the shop and they aren't very chrome anymore. well, they are, it's just they look a little marred because of the dirt and grime that goes through the engine bay. even after a thorough cleaning, they aren't as shiny as they once were, for sure. and being on the eastern sea board, i will worry about salt corrosion. and doesn't it snow in the winter? double whammy! it'll leave little rust spots all over. if the rust corrodes enough, it'll chip the chrome plate and cause it to flake off. be sure to clean!

If a part is prepped properly and plated properly ... and the chrome is kept clean you wont have any problems at all. Windex(yes you read that right) and some microfiber towels will keep it VERY clean. I also like to hit it up with some chrome polish before shows for some extra sparkle.

I live in NJ -- salt, snow, rain ... no probs at all on any of the parts that I, or my bf, has. Plus, how much salt, snow, and rain actually touched the top parts of your engine????
