SedanMan, you have to use spray paint, otherwise you'll never get a good finish.
Ever see an exterior of a car painted with a BRUSH??
Anyway, there is a company - G2, I think - they sell interior spray paint for autos. Supposed to be more of a dye, and very resistant to temperature changes and sun. It's pricey ($15 a can) and they say to use the primer (same price) on any hard plastics (the paint alone is really for stiff vinyl) and they also have a clear coat (again, same price) for more protection.
I guess you could go with regular spray paint (don't know about the durability though), or do what my lady did - she had her body shop spray her center console trim the same OEM color os the outside of her Jeep. Looks nice.
