man that is a tough one....it could be either....
could that be one of the prototypes that had one and was just on the advertising circut...and not an actual production model?

That is a tough one. If you look really close, it looks like the "moonroof" isnt straight/even. It could be a reflection of the Mazdaspeed sign, the sign is black with silver/white letters. I guess we have to wait to see?

According to one of the Mazda reps, this was one of the first prototypes shown. Its a ES fixed to look like the Mazdaspeed. In the beginning it did not even had a turbo, that is why the first photos did not have the hood open. Then when the turbo was available it was installed. Notice the painted turbo piping, in the production model is just matte plastic. Also the muffler will not say Racing Beat, but Mazdaspeed. And heatshield will also say Mazdaspeed

Not this first picture , but the first pictures to come out from the NY Autoshow (orange) was another painted ES, no turbo. This black one was another ES with the engine and interior. Some of the magazine articles also show one with sunroof.

I saw the same car at SevenStock last month. It certainly did have a moonroof... I took lots of pics of it including the engine which they had on display seperate from the car. Here's a pic... you can check out the rest of them on my 'work in progress' website... http://www.caliprotegemeet.1hwy.com
