Jeremy,

I have a question about the Sport20 bumper. Did you have it modified or the brace behind it modified for any reason? Because mine doesn't fit because of the brace(the long piece of black plastic behind the bumper). I have everything else installed but it looks funny w/o the bumper. Please give some info on what I need to do to make it fit. I'm not installing it personally. I have Maaco installing it. They did a pretty good job, they just can't get the bumper to fit properly. Thanks.

The black piece (mine is white) you are referring to is the 5mph U.S. bumper. You have to totally remove this in order to make the bumper fit. Therefore you will have no protection if you get in an accident. I hope you would've read about this before you bought the bumper. If that isn't the brace you are talking about please let me know.

That's the brace I'm talking about. I was told I wouldn't have any protection if I got into an accident. It made me think whether I wanted it that bad or not. Since I already bought it I might as well get it installed. I just don't think that since I'll have no protection, that they'll install it. I might have to do it myself. They might not want to be responsible for what happens if I do have an accident. There's no way to modify it, cutting peices off the brace so the bumper can fit over it?

There isnt a way that you can cut/ modify it to work. You have to completely remove it in order for the bumper to fit. It is true that you will have NO protection. If they wont install it, you can do it yourself. Its not hard at all. Just make sure they tell you what is involved.
Im just a whole lot more careful driving around now. I keep a good following distance when driving and a good space cushion when stopping at red lights and such. That way if anyone rear-ends you you wont be thrown into the car in front of you. Whatever you do keep the stock bumper and brace!!!

If you have any ? feel free.

BTW is it you that was trying to sell the bumper and fogs? If so you said you kept the plugs/connectors for the fog to use on the round ones. I was wondering if the 99-00 fogs use the same plugs/connectors that the round fogs use.

Thanks
Jeremy

you will still have protection in a crash, it'll just me a more expensive fix since the aftermarket bumber will be destroyed in almost any impact. But if you are drivin down the raod and hit a dude at say 35mph, you're not gonna die cuz you have an aftermarket bumper on. The problem is that the impact that the bumper wouldve absorbed will be transfered to the raidiator and other front systems, including chassis damage.

To tell you the truth, I don't know because I haven't bought them yet. I'm going down to Austin where www.mazdastuff.com is located and get them personally. Whether they use the same connectors or not, I'll make them work. But, I'm under the impression that they use the same connectors because both fogs are made by Mazda and the body styles of the 99-00 and 01-02 are the same so it wouldn't make sense to change them. Mazdastuff gave me an internet quote of $204.70 for the pair. That's expensive for fogs, but I have it. I'll hold on to the brace, I might need it in the future. And thanks for the driving tips, you can guarantee I'll get more than enough distance between me and cars ahead.

I had to remove the brace(bumber protector ) on mine also , and trust me , you don't want to have a high impact front end collisioin , cause the front will be finished

keep in mind that any impact over 40 mph will likely total your car, aftermarket bumper or not.

LOL, true true

Hey Jeremy, what's next for your car, are satisfied with it or have more planned? Did you do anything about the ECU yet?

I just added the MP3 rear lip (finally). I wish I had done it sooner. I don't know why I didn't. I also added a Kartboy SS and bushings as well as the stock Sport 20 foglights. Next will be steel brake lines and slotted rotors. Not a big-brake conversion just due to the fact that I run my 15's during winter. Mazdaspeed struts are next also since mine are almost blown. Then I'm "toying" with some Sparco Torinos. They have a set that is blue/black and grey that match my car perfectly. I kinda like keeping my car all business and not ricey. As for the ECU I have a remapped one sitting in my bedroom but it still needs work done to it. Been procrastinating on doing it.

By the way, are you coming to MAPP IV? Might roll with Mike D and meet folks from Fredericksburg if I'm down in C-Ville (UVA) that weekend.
Did you try "ZOOMSQD". Oops it would depend on how many letters you are allowed but here in Alberta we are allowed 7.

Hmm, now that I look at it, people might think it means Zoom Squad when it really means Zoom Squared. Okay how about 2ZOOMS or ZOOMX2?

Hey Jeremy, that sure looks great. That would be something I would be interested in for my P5 but the price is a liitle too much for me at the moment plus it is in USD so I have to figure out the exchange and extra shiping. Whew!

Love that lower lip and grill
