1990 1.8 pro vrs. 1994 v-tec..?..my first real race

i have never raced my pro yet (by race i mean an even start--from the stopped position where two cars are lined up at the same point/..)

today was the first time..it was about 20 min. ago broad daylight--at a stop light--two lane--this honda (and i'm not a honda hater at all--) pulled up--it was a 4-door about a 95--it said V-TEC on the side...nice wheels--etc. i was looking over checking out some of the work that had been done to it and i looked at the driver and he pointed @ the stop light...and i shook my head "yeah" and we started reving our engines...(--this is a four lane stop and right in front of us was NOTHING--a long strip on hwy 92--it couldn't have been better--by this time everyone at the stop lights were looking @ a bright orange car and a nice honda--) light turned and i punched the gas--@ like 4200 rpm..beautiful smoke rolled up the front side of my car and his and we were gone--i shifted to second @ like 7000 rpm because i forgot to look @ my tach--and he was like 1/4 of a car length in back of me--and it was like we were both a moving 2 car parking lot--we stayed exactly the same (me ahead by only a 1/4 of a car) until 4th gear when i pulled more and then slowed and he passed --because we were going like 94 mph in a 45-- and if i get one more ticket the state of florida will take my license away--this time for a year.....

we did it again @ the next light--this time was the same--it was almost easy---??......

it was awesome--talk about an adrenalin rush--0-

IS IT NORmal for a 1.8 dohc(all i have is exaust and intake)-- to beat a honda v-tec--or do you think it was just an emblem bought off of ebay or something

Could have been an emblem, all the ricers with hondas have them now a days and few actually have v-tec. But you can hear the v-tec when it kicks in. An Lx should be able to run even with a v-tec honda as long as it is slightly moddded. I raced an Si last night who had intake exhaust and headers and beat him but i have more than you so its hard to tell.

My '93 LX (COMPLETELY stock at the time) was even with my friend's '97 Civic EX with CAI and full exhaust. And YES those have VTEC motors. VTEC seems to be a little bit overrated. And yeah... what year Si was that?

VTEC is not what you think it is.

DOHC VTEC is the only "worthy" VTEC for power.

SOHC VTEC and VTEC-E are mostly for fuel economy.

It is completely normal.

I had a 93 Civic Si hatch. Faster than the sedan and it was slow compared to the Pro. I'm suprised he actually kept up as much as he did from your story. I've beaten 92-95 Civics by full car lenghts and more many times.

I'm not going to say that hondas are the ****, but I will admit that they are fast. I have a friend who has a 94 SI hatchback and it was fast as ****, and the werid thing is that is the stock motor with some mods like dc headers, intake, race cat, dc cat-back, and the thing gutted to hell.

I guess what it really comes down to is the proper tuning and right driver. Most of the civics i race don't know what they are doing so i beat them hands down. All they know how to do is put stickers on the side of their car.

But anyways, nice kill!

most civic owners dont know what they are doing, but I know of a few that stomp me every time. I have one friend that has a 94 Civic 4 dr. it has the b18c swap, 12 lbs of boost and a 100 shot of nos. He can kill almost any car he comes up against.

But yeah most civic owners dont know what they are doing

Dont down hondas. They produce the same power out of a 1.6 liter sohc that my 93 lx 1.8 liter dohc makes. Ive raced too many vtec hondas (EX civics, Si Delsols) and my cars even. But i have a really bad clutch so she doesn't grab 2nd gear like a champ anymore.

I am not downing hondas at all, if anything I respect them. I am just saying that alot of civic drivers think they have something when most do not even have VTEC.

There are a lot of civics out there that can kill alot of other cars, especially the one I spoke of above.

Most Civics don't come VTEC, and the ones that do come with SOHC VTEC.
