93 Probe GT goes down

well yeah my friend has a '93 Ford Probe GT.... we drive around together on occasion going places etc etc

well i know all he has done to his car is an exhaust. he has a body kit put on (the sensai kit) and the person he bought the car from had cut his springs to lower it

well me, i'm still completely stock

so anyway its wednesday night (i was supposed to post this yesterday, but i forgot
and we were just driving around, he has his gf in the passenger, i have a friend in the passenger.

so we are just cruising along normally, another one of our friends is in an auto neon behind us he doesn't race cuz he cant keep up

so we slow down to about 40kmph we both are in second, then he punches it and i punch it, so maybe liek half a second he started before me. we are exactly the same through second, i'm at his door though cuz i started that little bit later, we both shift into third, (i can tell he shifted cuz he has an exhaust and i can hear it) and for a bit we are still going the same speed, then i just start pulling on him, we are both going at it, still in third, and i start pulling slowly, and slowly start passing him. i my nose of the car a couple of feet infront of his nose, and we shut down at the end of third cuz some cars were down the road....

now i knwo a Probe GT is 160hp stock. and he has an exhaust, so he maybe running the most, i think 170hp (even tho the guy he bought it from (2 years ago) said it had 200hp)

now i'm completely stock FP-DE - 122HP
i do have a nice exhaust leak which makes my car sound liek i got a turbo spooling
has there ever been instances of an exhaust leak adding power????

i'm just stumped....on paper his car should beat mine.... they seem to be high 14 second to low 15 second cars

i just dunt know.... but yeah i beat him

no doubt you would

hmmm i'm wondering, do we have a nice 3rd gear pull liek the RX-7s

or it would be more like does MYYY tranny have a nice 3rd gear pull, cuz the 99-00 have a different tranny than the 01+

sorry dude, F-series tranny is geared longer than the G....althuogh i guess your kinda right...you should be able to wind 3rd gear longer than a 2001+ Pro...lower gearing + more revs(1.8 pulls closer to redline than 2.0)....I loooove the tranny in my MX-6....H-series....toughest FWD tranny Mazda ever made....you need like 400+ lb ft to start breaking that sucka!

oh yeah, thats one nice tranny, but then again a turbo MX-6 it needs that tranny

lol

well i just found out probe GTs are about 3000lbs

and the weight of the 99-00 was what, 2400-2500???

i cant remember, but for some reason that number pops into my head

so that can explain some things there

No seriously, there is no way a 93 PGT wouldnt kick the crap out of a 99-00 ES Pro....They run a lot more power and a shorter geared transmission...your guys car is either running like total crap or he can't drive....

yeah that is what i thought

also like a year ago, we were on the highway, and we did a run, 4th gear was equal, but when we shifted into 5th, he just took off, i geuss thats the showing of more horsepower right there

but otherwise, why am i so equal to him through gears 1 - 4, my brain hurts thinking about it. like we have done a few runs here and there, and its always been the same outcome, being completely equal, or me pulling very slowly.....

maybe next time me and him will switch cars, i take the Probe GT, and he takes my pro

i used to drive his Probe a while ago (back before i taught him how to drive manual )

when we first got the probe we raced a altima.... i killed the altima in the probe when i tried, but when he tried he lost....but thats when he was still learning to drive stick.... 2 years ago

i thought by now he would be decent enough

i dunno, i've been thinking about this ever since, and i cant find anyway for me to beat him...
i'm just confused

i'll just leave it at he cant drive

seriously, i was thinkign that for the bad driver comment... liek how bad do you have to be to mess up from a rollign start....

he didn't misshift or anything.... and even if he did shift slow (which i knwo he didn't) he shouldn't lose liek that, cuz as soon as he should hit his powerband he should pull on me, not me pull on him

i need to get a video of us going, the only problem is getting it to the computer
i'll see what i can do, figure something out, now first its getting the video

like when i do this i want it to be like, someone from behind filming (in their own car), and a camera in each car filming, to see how it is, and to void all discrepancies, and etc etc
now getting so many cameras would be a problem, and for me getting even one would be a problem

hmmm gotta see what happens, i'm still racking my brain over all it though... my brain hurts

Has anyone seen a dynos sheet on a ford probe? maybe there is just really significant drivetrain loss, considering you said he wasnt shift slow. But also you do have the 120 hp engine, and I drive a 2002 lx with 130 and its stock dyno shows like 105 horsepower max at the wheels, so maybe it just all comes down to the differences in drivetrain loss. And yah I have raced a probe gt and he won by a pretty good distance, but it was on the freeway and we both had a start at like 70 and his car had an exhaust and mine doesn't lol. Otherwise I guess I don't have a single clue why you won, seems weird but hey, don't rack ur brain over it at you did win so relish in it =D lol peace.

I raced him ont he highway before too, he ate me in 5th gear

liek seriously we started from 4th and we were pretty much equal.... in comes 5th gear, and he just takes off as if i was standng still, like his 5th gear just raped me

maybe thats why you lost to him

like i'm saying 1 -4 with me against the probe is like equal, when its time for 5th he will rape me, thats why i try to keep the race in the first 4 gears

also the powerband on us smaller 120hp engines is more linear than you 130hp models

also us earlier 3rd gens are lighter, and i've beat a few FS-DEs here and there

i also heard we dyno pretty close to you guys too...

the 1.8L's will almost always outrun the 2.0's. they have a much smoother powerband and are more rev-friendly. The 2.0L fs-de is a stroked version of this 1.8L motor. It makes more torque down low but sacrifices rev's.

The higher an engine will rev the more horsepower it'll make. Look at deisels....they only rev to like 4K. they make butt-loads of torque but low HP numbers.
