Now THAT'S funny. I have here in front of me, Road Report automobile buyers guide for 1992 and 1994. It's from Trader Publications in Canada, is 400 pages long, and shows all cars, from all manufacturers, their perfomance stats and specifications.

It shows 1/4, 60-0 Braking, Tops speed, Lat accel etc. Let me throw some #s at you here. These are all #s from stock cars, new from the factory of course.

92 Integra- 140hp 0-60:8.8 1/4 mile:16.5
92 318i Conv 134hp 0-60:10.0 1/4 mile:17.7
(this was the same year the model changed, but the conv'
remained the same as the 91 3-series. Obviously the non-
convertable would be a bit faster)
92 Thunderbird 5.0 210hp 275 lb.ft 0-60:9.7 1/4miles: 16.7
92 Mustang 5.0 auto 225 hp 0-60 7.5 1/4mile: 16.0
(would it be so hard to believe that I beat a junker of an 86,
especially if he's a bad driver?)
92 Cavalier Z24 140hp 0-60:9.5 1/4mile:16.7(it seems to catch
here. Automatic for the same car is 0-60:10.6 1/4mile:18.0)
92 Prelude SR 4WS 160hp 0-60:8.3 1/4mile: 16.3

Weightsmultiply by 2.24 to get lbs)
Integra:1146-1214Kgs(depending on model)
318i:1300Kg(which weighs LESS than the 92+ chassis)
T-Bird:1687Kg(hello!?)
Mustang LX 5.0 hatchback Manual5:1392Kg
Cavalier Z24:1208Kg(sorry, don't have figures for newer car)
Prelude:1325Kg

1992 Mazda Protege LX(According to the same source):1065Kg
(remember, a Canadian book, so it didn't have DOHC, rear
discs etc. GTs were only made in 90-91 and 93)

Now, look at the figures of those cars? Is it really all that hard to believe that I could beat ANY of them, never mind WHUP them if they're a bad driver? With the Thunderbird....I rest my case.

Now, lets get back to the 86 T-Bird. HAHAHAHAHA, duncanslx, you gotta be kidding. Maybe compared to LTD station wagons, and Chevy Citations your car was fast....

Quote from Patrick Bedard, as seen in May 2003 issue of Car and Driver: "....That wasn't the nature of 60s muscle cars from the early days of road testing. Back then, anything that could break 15 seconds in the quarter mile was a FAST CAR(the famous Pontiac GTOs could rarely make the cut)...."

I was just looking through a back issue of Car and Driver(Aug 97) here are some other #s

ZX2 Sport 0-60:8.0 1/4mile:16.3 .74 on the skidpad..haha! amazing how they can ruin a perfectly fine chassis...
96 Civic DX 0-60:8.5 1/4mile:16.7 .73 on skidpad
96 Protege ES: 0-60:8.8 1/4mile:16.8 skidpad .80

I hope this information helps everyone out...

whups, hope that didn't go up twice.

Anywho, the only RICE mod I have on my car is my rims. Rims make a car. Everything else is pure function, as the car is completely stock. My GT is the way a GT is supposed to look(which means no clear corners or ground effects for me).

Which means...the PEDALS perform a function. I'm kind of a big guy (6'2" 276lbs), so It's hard for me to do a proper 'heel-and-toe' downshift. My lets just don't bend the way other peoples' do. The pedals help me use the inner ball of my foot on the brake pedal, while blipping the throttle with the outter part of my foot. The pedals are closer together, which makes this easier.

Another thing. To anyone who thinks that there is no skill or technique to drag racing, are the very same people who keep getting whupped my Crapaliers and Thunderbirds. Especially with a high-rpm motor like ours, with make power at 6500 rpm, there's a fine line between too much wheelspin, and bogging down. Especially when you have low profile tires. Also, shifting quickly and accurately is an art. Me personally, my 1-2 shift is one singular motion, with no hesitation, and using only enough clutch to allow the shift to take place. Yes I realize I may be ruining my syncos. But seeing someone fall a 1/2 car length behind me during simutanious 1-2 shifts is worth it....

Two races last night.

My friend in his 944 Turbo whupped my ***, but we were just racing for fun. But I did race, and beat, my first Civic. It was a 95ish Si. Now lets see how long it takes you guys to figure that one out. It was a 95(92-95) Civic Si Coupe, and it wasn't just a badge on the back.

It was fun because he was about 17, and he had two cute little hoochies in there with him. Guaranteed he thought he was going to smoke me...most people do.

wait a second

ya gotta quit with the horsepower theory. the tv car commercials brainwashes its viewers. theres a difference between horsepower and torque. just because a car has a reputation of having say...150 hp, doesn't mean you get 150 hp at the wheels. your ENGINE creates 150 hp. basically, how well your car performs is based primarily on torque (throttle response) and how well it accelerates. dont forget weight.

HUH? Ya, I'm confused too. I'm a **** talker? I don't know. I know I'll race anyone, any time. I don't care if I lose. And yes, torque means nothing in a drag race. I have no problem holding RPMs at 4500 and feathering the clutch at launch. And speaking of horsepower, it looks like my car is doing pretty well for just axle back exhaust and a K&N drop-in. Proof to my theory that even the exact same car, can have different HP figures from the factory. Not all engines are built the same.

http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm

now, since I'm 276 lbs, and with fuel, I estimated my vehicle weight at 2700 lbs. Sounds reasonable right? So with my 16.3@84, I'm getting about 124HP at the wheels, and about 144 at the flywheel. Not too bad eh?

hahah, you guys are losers
i'm sorry to throw reality @ your faces, but proteges are going no where, its slow, but i still love my p5

stop thinking speed makes u cool

and gen, stop assuming what the 17 year old guy in civic is thinking, ur not him. u assume things cuz u wanna feel good about your car, nothing wrong with that but i'm telling u striahgt out how slow your car is. face it, rich guys get expensive & fast as hell cars, and they prob dont "race". why are guys buying not so fast cars think they are so fast, go test drive a E55 and u will know what fast is, its even auto, how convient.

and u know what? i'm 18, got my car on the day i got my g2 @16(Ontario) and i have never thought of my car as anything near fast. i just enjoy the car as it is cuz its good looking and it gets me places. speed = money, protege = decent priced nice car and not money

proteges.. fast... haha, i'm sure some are actually fast, but k&n drop in and a loud car doesn't go fast

I didn't say anything about any 17 year olds' thoughts. I said it's funny because he was 17, and he had some cute little hoochies in the car. Also, I never said my car was fast. I just mentioned the cars that my car beat. I'm not saying Proteges are fast, but my Protege is quicker than the average one. I'm saying that my quicker than average(quick is different from fast) Protege, driven by a good driver(me), can beat a lot of other cars that are usually considered to be a faster car. I understand that the new E55 goes 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds, and no, I don't have $120,000 to buy one(Canadian $$). But in the meantime, I LOVE driving my $5000 Protege, which puts a smile on my face everytime I start rolling.

If I had the cash, my next car would be a Bugatti EB 16-4 Veyron. 1001 HP, 0-300kph in 14 seconds. Too bad I don't have $1.5 million kicking around.

Jason, I'm glad someone in TPC told I was posting on here so you could all come on and watch me like a circus freak.

Kris, ya, lets race
