Funny SUV Racers (long)

My sister's birthday was Thrusday, so Friday my parents had a meal for us siblings. I drove to my parents house, had a good time. On my way back up to my apartment (about a 45-50min drive), I was driving on Rt. 15 just going outside of Lewisburg (yea, I'm sure you don't know where that's at, but pretend you do).

At the last light on the strip before 15 turns into a highway for about 20 miles, I pulled up behind this Chevy Blazer (left lane) and a Kia Sportage (right lane). At the light before, the blazer took off pretty quick, or so it looked, I was pretty far behind at that point.

I was minding my own business, jamming to my Audiovent CD that I got earlier in the day, and a civic pull up behind the Kia, so we're sitting right next to each other. His car looked pretty clean, lowered with some rims and some sort of exhaust, not too ricey. I looked over, gave him the thumbs up, he smiled back.

Anyways, the light turns green and the Sportage and the Blazer launch HARD, the blazer I think chirpped a bit, the Kia was wanting to, but it's a ******* Kia. Amidst my laughing at the two SUVs dragging down the road, I say **** it and hit the gas, I was still in first so redline came quick, I switched to second, not hard enough to make it chirp. By this point the Blazer has about 1.5 refrigerator boxes on the Sportage, I'm pulling quick on both of them. I must not have been paying attention, because the civic must have thought it was funny too, because he was running up along side me.

I hit redline in 2nd, almost hitting the cutoff, slammed it into third, and the Kia was getting reeled in TOO fast as this point. The blazer had quite a lead on the Kia, so I jet past the Kia, calmy change lanes (even using my signals, I'm a good driver, hehehe). The civic darts out from behind the Kia and takes my lead, we both pass the Blazer rather quickly. After this, it was about time to hit 4th (around 80), and I call it a day. The civic guy gives me a thumbs up as we're both laughing almost histerically, passes me, and then changes lanes in front of me.

Apparently the Blazer wasn't too happy with us, a minute later he passes both myself and the civic, cuts in front of the civic and brake checks him, which makes me need to slam on MY brakes too. Freaking SUV drivers. Luckily the Blazer took an exit a few miles later, so I didn't have to worry about him.

Long story, yes.... But it was just so funny to be watching two mini SUVs battleing it out. I was surprised, I thought the blazer would be a little bit quicker, the Sportage was obviously crap though. I hope those two knew each other, hehe....

[edit]It's a sportage not a Rio, durrrrrrrrr

Great story, but the Kia Rio is not an SUV.

Ahhhhh, that's what it was... The rio is a sedan, huh? I didn't get a good look at the back of it

I'll go back and edit my post.

Yeah, but in a heavy sportage (especially with 4WD) the engine is VERY underwhelming. One of my coworkers has one.

Don't worry, I always add an [edit]blah blah blah[/edit] on my posts that I have to correct... The blah blah blah is an explination of what I changed. So now I sound like LESS of an idiot, hehe...

Yep, it's a 4.0 V6, although it's auto. I've never driven it, but my sister loves it. I got her some Hella 500s for xmas, they are BRIGHTTTT!
