Dont compare the stock flywheell Spec number because vw is known to underate the flywheel number. If they dont underate the number the second reason is probably a smaller drivetrain loss. The dyno I saw of a 1.8t at the wheel was verry close of the number at the flywheel and thats without a chip. I can't say the same thing with my pos protege... 130 at the flywheel 100 on the ground I dont call that Horse power I call that poney power.
You will not kill a vr6 if the vr6 is already moving at 60 mph. The tird speed on a vr6 is devastating trust me on that one. On the launch I give you an advantage but as soon as he will start to get some traction watch your mirror and open your window to hear the engine comming.
Between two light you will win but on a longer distance I put my money on the vr6 if its a stick tranny, if the engine is in good shape and if the driver is good.
By the way I drove both car, the 323 gtx turbo awd and a Mk2 vr6. Its two different beast tune for two different purpose:the autobanh(german highway) and city.

So just because you drove a GTX turbo (god knows where, they never made it to the us, at least the '90 and up models), doesn't necessarily apply.

True the awd is sucking some power on the top speed. I dont want to argue that your car is worst than a vr6... I only bring the fact that they are two different car made for different purpose.

I was just curious about the year of the GTX you drove. I don't remember the years they offered the GTX prior to '90... I think they were an '88 and '89 model (that was avaliable in the US, probably in canada)... But '90+ the GTX wasn't offered in the US, I can't honestly say about them being avaliable in Canada... I justt I'd have to look.
Anyway, the point... The pre '90 GTXs had the B6T engine, which was around 160hp, i believe... The '90+ GTXs had 180hp (and a MUCH better engine platform to build on).
Oh yea, one last thing, my car IS much much worse than a VR6 Jetta/GTI

It was a 1989. It looks like your red protege pic except that his car is green. Yes Gti are cool car, I try to save my money to get one as my next car. They are expensive but IMO they worth the money: they dont have the reliability of japanese car but they probably have an advantage on the durability, they are made with fully galvanize steel so it wont rust(the new one) and the drivetrain are usually bullet proof.

a lot has to do with gearing as well.
the b6t in the 88-89 323 GTX is not the same as the 90-94 j-spec 323 GTX. the 88-89 has a 1.6 and comes with about 132hp stock while the 90-94 j-spec has a 1.8 and comes with about 180hp stock.
i haven't come across a stock/lightly modified vw that has presented a threat....and i'm still running stock boost.

That was nice to see, damn the driver of the corrado should learn to launch. I've been to the 1/4 a lot since the last time i posted and have done the major tuning the engine needed for last summer this year is going to be even more awesome. At the end of the season my best time was a 13.7 for next summer the car got a little more affection and time from me, i should be (hope) in the high 12 next season which is starting around the 15 of april.
