Got spanked by a thought to be ricer (NPT?)

Well the story of the night starts out with me and my friend driving around in his 92 eclipse (talked about previously).... he had just taken off his muffler, so we had been cruising and doing a little civic spanking in it... but we stop at the gas station to by beer for later at home... but we see the car that we know as the weedwaker from school, this comes from how it sounds, thinking this guy was just pure rice. But anyways this car is a 95 civic coupe, all riced out with the nice wheels, full body kit, dual 10inch subs and box, type r stickers... fart muffler, etc, etc etc apperance wise...

so we go in grab the beer, and get a dew.... come back out and i find out who owns the car, tell him it looks pretty nice (which it does!), and ask him what he has under the hood, and he says of course nothing..... he asks me if i want to race, and i figured the 2.0liter DOHC, no muffler Eclipse that i was driving (nicks car) would spank him quite well..... so i tell him ill bet 20 bucks up on it, but want to see atleast his trunk (check for nos), and he had two subs, and box, no nos bottle....... but he finally shows us under the hood.... SOHC 1.6 liter (110hp stock), but with a few mods....

of course he had full exhaust, the a CAI, new plugs, MSD ignition, and then the thing we didnt notice till after we raced.... FULL HEADERS!! GDI

but we end up going out and racing at a sweet 1/4 strip of road that i hadnt seen before, i did a perfect run through 3 gears, as did he, and all i saw was his tail lights, he won by almost 2 car lengths

so of course he got my money, and my total respect, because not only did we have on passenger in each car, but he was hauling those subs and that body kit, where as i was in a stock eclipse with more power stock than that civic, with a bigger engine, and no muffler....

but anyways, they were all pretty cool about racing and werent all erogant about their cars and such.... so this guy no longer is on my ricer list, but on my list of guys with bad *** cars

194hp/140tq on a 1.6L N/A SOHC motor? I think not. Those most likely weren't headers you were looking at, prolly a Turbo manifold. B16a's with heavy internal work barely reach 195hp in N/A form. However, a win is a win, and if he was pumping out 195hp your eclipse would be further back than 2 car lengths so it sounds like his dyno is BS or he can't drive for crap.

I doubt it was a turbo too, hopefully you would have recognized a turbo or a supercharger, god help you if you couldn't. But he could have been running som hidden goodies. He could have been completely built, running a higher profile cam and higher compression. Ahh the wonders of all motor.

he could have also put that valve cover form the SOHC on a B16,so its like a sleeper... I believe the valve cover will just bolt on....did you take a close look at the timing belt cover??? if you did you might have noticed 2 cam gears...195 whp seems awful high

who knows
would you like to see a pic of my engine bay and tell me i have nitrous or "NOS" as you guys like to call it. My bottle may not be hidden now, but a custom box for the subs can help hide it

oh ive seen my fair share of cars with nitrous installed on them, sure i saw no bottle, but that ment nothing, i checked that engine bay, there was absolutely no signs of nitrous.... and we all know how it is pretty easy to tell if there is one, hell theres almost always braded steel in there too if there is nitrous.... and there was none of that

but he could have had some in there, but it seemed like he played fairly.....

Internal

With the right internal work on the motor, port and polish, three angle valve job, extruding the intake manifold, larger tb and many other basic mods, I cant see why he isnt pushing that much hp. With even a few more tweeks like knifing the crank, lightened flywheel, dual stage clutch, lsd and some closer gearing, the odds are he can run pretty good and these are mods you dont see.
I would think that you would have heard all that work in the exhaust tone. When an engine is usually worked and massaged like that, the exhaust will usually give it away.
One thing about the Honda driver, he wasnt arrogant and commend him on that.
Good story and race.
