It's not how you stand by your car...
There I was traveling back from Speedorama, the first car show of the year in the Toronto area. I was almost home when I stopped at a red light. Up beside me rolls a early 90s Accord, DTM tips, loud exhaust, clear lenses and big rims. I figured the car would have some punch. Well the light went green and the Accord took off...I drove away normaly...he wanted a war.
I was sick of looking at all the people at the car show who do a good job of standing next to thier cars..."Its not how you stand by your car its how you race your car that counts!"
If he wanted a war, a war he would get! I rolled up beside the Accord about 3 feet shy of the white line. He rolled up to the line and stopped as the light in the left/right direction went yellow. I rolled up to the line and stopped. The light went red, I stabbed the throttle a few times. We sat there poised and ready as the green turn arrow for the opposing traffic cycled...even though there was no one there...I brought the RPM to about 2500. The green dropped...Immediately my Protege jumped with a quick chirp from the tires. I didn't pay attention to the Accord, so I don't know how he launched, but the Protege was near perfection. As I ran through the gears all I could here was my muffler at the lower RPMs and my K&N at the higher RPMs wailing, music to my ears.
I ran up to 140 km/h and decided that my opponent had been sufficiently schooled, by a full car length.
I feel sort of sorry for the Accord driver. Tomorrow when he meets up with his gang, the guy in the passenger seat will recount the story to them all about how the Accord was shammed by a mildly massaged Pro!

Yeah you need to get the same launch and then see whats up. Like this weekend I went up against a new Celica with TRD everythign on it. My launch sucked I dumped my clutch too high of an RPM and I had horrible wheel hop. When I finally did launch he was already 2 car lengths ahead of my but wiht a little help from the NOS gods in the next couple of second the turbo pro was right next to the celica gaining. SO it really is all about driving skill and launch.
