MS3 vs. Mustang GT = One ashamed Mustang owner

This wasnt really a "race", but a black '05-'08 Mustang GT owner will be tossing and turning tonight. Here's the story. I'm on my way back from Wal-Mart (which by the way is a clusterf*ck the night before Easter), and there is this new looking Mustang GT in front of me. As far as I can tell he is bone stock. No exterior mods, not louder than a stock Mustang, and had a very stock looking dual exhaust. Anywho we are both in the left lane, waiting for the light to turn so we can turn left. The light turns, and he doesnt move. (I guess he was jerking off to the latest edition of Mullets Monthly, or whatever Mustang owners read) Anywho, instead of honking I decide to rev my engine at him to get him going. He did his little peel out just to show he was pissed, and we finally got moving. I stayed behind him until we turned onto this small two lane road. It starts out with about 1/4 mile of straight road, followed by some twisties, followed by 1/8 mile straight. First we have to cross over some train tracks, but I know he is about to gun it as soon as we get passed them. I can feel it. I am now at about 4K RPMs in 2nd gear, just waiting. Just like I expected, he hits it hard right at the beginning of the straight. His rear end gets pulled down, a puff of smoke comes out of his exhaust tips, and I hear the V8 screamin. So I gun it right behind him. The shock that this guy must have been going through when he didn't increase his distance a single bit must have been amazing. We were about 6 car lengths apart when we started gunning it, and we were the exact same distance when I was finishing up 2nd. I hit 6K RPMs and make a perfect shift into 3rd. My head was pushed back so hard into the seat I almost lost grip on the steering wheel. I could tell by his rear end he was still under WOT and I closed that 6 length gap to 2 lengths in about 3 seconds. I had to let off because I was about to rear end him!!

So we reach the end of the straight. All thats left is twisties so I figure we are all done. But, uh, I see no brake lights. And this dude wants to play through the twisties! Hold on, I need a second. A Mustang through the twisties??

Haha, sorry that's just too funny. Anyway, I decide to humor him. I'm half throttle through about a mile of twisties, just painting his ***. Frankly watching the body roll on that fat bitch was making me car sick. It assured me 500% that I would never own a Mustang.

Anyway, we come to the last straight which is a little shorter than the first one. Sure enough, he guns it again. This time I hit 3rd and start pulling him in again. This time I act like I am getting beside him just to let him know he is my bitch.

Like I said, this wasn't a true race, but I definately feel good about it. Coming from an RX8 I have played with Mustangs before, but being equal to one and in some cases superior as far as power is something completely different for me. Sleep well Mustang owner!!

I can believe the twisties part somewhat, however S197 mustangs are nowhere near as bad in the corners that you are painting them to be.....older mustangs were , but the S197 has an all new chassis

Unless you are modified, though you were NOT "pulling" on a S197 GT in the straights....I know the numbers on both of those cars, and bottom line is it simply isnt possible, so I'm not throwing the brown flag that it didnt happen...but either that guy couldnt drive, or you were racing a V6 with dual exhaust

and ummm, fat bitch ??

2006 Mustang GT - 3483lbs

2007 Mazdaspeed - 3180lbs

if the GT is a fat bitch, the 3 isn't looking so svelte and trim either....

Hey bro I saw what I saw. Didn't sugarcoat anything. I have seen plenty of Mustangs and I can tell the difference between a V6 and a GT. Besides if this was a V6 then I would have damn near rear ended him in 2nd gear when we first started pulling.

As far as the handling... have you ever driven a new Mustang and a Speed 3 back to back. I mean within 15 minutes of eachother? I have, and the difference is astounding. With suspension mods, the Mustang could be a great track car, but from the factory, it is still a Mustang.

I know the numbers on these cars too. 1/4 mile times have the GT running about 13.8-13.9 stock. The speed runs about 14.0-14.2 stock. That's a very minimal difference and any sort of driver error either way means the race. Not to mention the RWD GT has a big advantage on the launch over the MS3. There's the .3-.4 second difference right there. As you know we where gunning it from a roll. No reason at all a Speed 3 couldn't pull a little on a stock GT given different driver skills.

EDIT: Ahh. You are a former Mustang owner. Thus all the hostility. Sorry the story hurt your feelings but I'm afraid it did happen.

Hardly...I also am a former Mazda owner. I have owned 4 mazda's and 3 of them were turbocharged, and all handled better than my Mustang...I had a 2001 GT, and I will easily admit that a speed3 would wax my old car in a straight or a corner...i don't even care too much for the newer stang's, i just know the facts..fact is a stock speed3 isn't pulling on a s197 gt mustang...i can believe staying nose to nose even, but not pulling in a straight...

btw...did I mention street racing is stupid, juvenile, and dangerous ?

What happened happened. Maybe the dude shifted slow. Maybe it helped that I flat shifted into 3rd to maintain boost. Maybe he had suitcases in the car. Or hell, maybe starting in that certain RPM range and speed, the MS3 is some competition for the new GT's.

As far as street racing being stupid, isn't this the kills section? I am new here so I'm not trying to start problems, just wondering.

read my post before assuming hostility

btw...disagreeing with someone isnt hostility, however the insinuations that all mustang drivers are mullet wearing rednecks IS

this is the racing section, not street racing...as in autox, drag, time attack,drift,etc...not saying i've never had a stop light war before, but obviously if you almost rear ended the guy you were doing something ill advised

Who cares if the MS3 was pulling on him or not he was right there with him. Besides every guy who owns a mustang thinks he's a bad *** and needs to be taken down. and as far as street racing being stupid is concerned well maybe you should buy a second hand Buick and stay in the right lane.

I will never disagree that the RX8 is sexier than both the 3 and the Mustang. Can't beat the handling either. I have been missing my 8 lately, but the torque and practicality of the MS3 is tough to beat IMO. If I have the money in the future I might be springing for a RWD roadster again for a weekend car. Either an S2000 or another RX8.

It happens.

In the Navy, any backwater dunce outta bootcamp and straight into the fleet seems to go out and blow his sign on bonus or first year's pay by bein talked into a brand new GT mustang... We're swamped with them here in Norfolk, and with all the Bridges, Tunnels and the HOV lanes they're prolly the most common vehicle i find myself racing (Golf GTIs a close second).

It must have a lot to do with driver error, of course, cause i've looked up the stats too, but i am yet to have a GT escape, embarrass, or even pull away from me (at least not in 3rd-6th gear, and it usually goes there). And god help them if it's not on a straightaway.

Just my $0.02

Look up some slalom numbers, the MS3 does it better than most.

Please show where it says this. All it says is they don't endorse it. Please keep opinions to yourself.
