Dustobub's right, probably about the only parts the current Focus and the Protege share is the cigarette lighter! J.K., but seriously they are an entirely different platform, look at the specs for the car like wheelbase, track and the like. The Pro motor is a 2.0 L F-series motor, the Focus motor is a 2.0 L Zetec, and it's a pretty safe bet the tranny is entirely different between the two. Sorry 1FstFocus, as far as I know, there is very little the two cars have in common. I have heard that rumor about the new Protegé being a Focus, though. I hope not, though. Nothing bad on the Focus, hell, I almost bought a Pacific Blue ZX3 3 months ago, but I'd prefer that the small car market keep diverse instead of having clones everywhere.

I'll second that!

It's cool for aftermarket parts, like the fact that I can interchange stuff with the Escort. On the other hand, Ford is Amercian. Mazda is ownwed by Ford, but the cars are still made in Japan. I don't want to be buying an import car and worry about it being made in the US. Example: 90% of the 96-up Honda Civics are made in Ontario... As far as I know, Proteges are manufactured in either Nagasaki or Hiroshima... Although I may be wrong. If I want an American car that'll last me 3 yeaers max, I'll buy a Chevy Crapalier.

THAT IS INCORRECT

THe focus and the protege are not the same..

THe focus uses a 2.0L zetec motor while the 2.0L in the p5 and all other protege are 2.0L f-series mazda motors...

THe platforms are also way different.. in 2003 the protege will then assume the focus platform..

Why ya gotta trash the focus?? I think they're sweet cars. The guys that have them don't make them all ghetto like all the other Japanese cars out there. I'm a proud member of focaljet.com (focswagongrl), and would have gotten a focus, had the P5 not caught my eye at the right time. They are different than the rest of the civic crowd out there, and most of them are not modded to be fast, but to look nice and be fun to drive. Well, that's my little rant for now.

My boyfriend's focus wagon is pretty sweet, by the way. He knows it's not fast, and if we "race" someone, it's just for fun. He knows he's not gonna school any rice-rockets on the pike down here, but it's just to feel the car hauling *** under your feet. That's all. I just hate to see people turn driving into a big competition. That's why there are people called enthusiasts. We love all cars just for being cars. Ok, all done. I swear.

Please don't hate me....If you did....Ah eff yall then!

LOL...Prp5girlie...Proud member of Club-focus.net and Focaljet...

My foci is fast..the name dont lie!..lol....I beat rice rockets all the time and its fun..car may not look like some of the nice ones on focaljet but it moves along. I love all cars even some civics if there done up properly..im really a big fan of the pro5...i wish they would have been out when i got my focus cuz i prolly would have gotten it over the focus..and ive contemplated trading the focus in for one but im already to deep into mods with this car to just start over.. ..oh well!...
