Protege Vs. Accord

Ok i have a '97Lx with the inky dinky 1.5L The only mod is just a cheap cone filter on it. I was drivin and some guy in a '94ish Accord was weavin in and outta traffic and speedin and all that crap, so of course as he passes me i drop it down to 3rd and floor it and i'm runnin right next to him. As we come to the stop light he opens his window and says, "You got a radar detector?", and i say of course, so i knew he wanted to race. Light turned green, i let the clutch out too slowly so i got a horrible launch, which was ok, cause he had an auto. I was only about a foot ahead of him the whole time all the way to 80 MPH. Then the road had some dips and turns in it and i just hept my foot on the pedal and watched him dissapear in my mirrors. As he catches up to me at the stop he just gave me some dumbfounded look. It was great...

heheh its all good. Us 4th genners always pick on the 5th gen guys (94-97) cause they beleive that their cars are faster cause of being newer Yes they have 10 more HP, but we have better gearing and a better powerband, which is why we pull on them all the time

SOHC 2.2L
94 if was an EX has the 145 hp Vtec motor
if was an LX i beleive is the 135 hp non-vtec motor
Either way, that isn't much considering its only SOHC.

I would think that cause those accords are like 2.2L motors or 2.0 I think 2.2 t hough ,, they would be good for power, like a turbo or something , but i don't see many turbo's out for them .. anyhow one day I was running with a white 91 or 92 accord, i don't know if it was a lx or ex, all I know was that I was in 5th gear on the highway and he was trying to pull away and I was just stepping on the gas and keeping up with him ,, I did not shift down cause I did not want the attention that the sound of my muffler would give since his was already blaring, I mean we were dead even , I was not gunning it .. so .. I was just laughing that is auto shifted down and all that and was not going anywhere, people learn to drive stick please

When my car had the USDM motor I raced an Mp3 and stayed pretty even with it, we raced after i got my stock JDM motor in and i walked em. Some of the 90-91 Accords have the JDM motor in em and will give a good suprise if 5-speed. I agree, not all auto's are slow. Bruce you were prolly racing a DX, that is the only Accord I could see losing on the highway like that.

Hold on , i did not say it was slow, and to be honest, I was hardley trying ... I was just somewhat stepping on the gas in 5th gear, I mean I was not even serioius with the guy , If I was serious I would have gave him a problem for sure... funny thing, my car may not have much hp but it sure does a good job at times of keeping up with some of the more powerful cars, except when you get into the 1.8L vtecs and forget about the 2.2L preludes, lol .. that's a joke

hehe I agree the 1.8L DOHC Vtec is a beast, and the bigger brother to my motor the 2.2L DOHC Vtec is a true killer, especially when swapped into a little civic hatchback a 1.6L DOHC Vtec will pull on a 2.2L SOHC, sadly enough, the SOHC Honda motors blow goats once you hit 3rd gear against DOHC Vtec's

I prefered the Longer gearing of my old LX Tranny, but my new EX tranny with shorter gearing pulls pretty hard, 3rd ends at 90mph instead of 100mph, big change, not use to shifting at 90mph, and screws me up a lot, trying to decide on which gear to throw into, 3rd or 4th...
