smoked a 5.0 on my 323 ???

As i was on my way home around 5:15 pm just got off the freeway toward the expressway. When i was underneath the bridge the stang passed by me running 60-65 MPH while i was running 40 mph. he passed by me on my right and revved it hard twice vroom....vroomm...it sounded really good and scary. (stang use to always smoke me on my civics but this time.....) As we reach at the light which has been green couple second before i even reach the lite (he was waiting 4 me). there was 3 guys inside the stang and i was by myself so he revved it then took off i did the same thing but by the time i got off the line he was already half a car away from me as soon as my tires stopped spinning i pulled up hard on him. My 2nd gear we were already side by side and before i reach 6900 rpm his front bumpers was on my door handles i was staring at the side mirror i forgot about the redline so i over revved my car and it cut off on me. His car jumped half way through my car but rite when i shifted on third i was gaining HARD and pulled up on him he was behind my rear bumpers when we reached the other light... we run it again maybe he just messed up on his driving thats y he lost. so we did it and i still smoked him same length. on the next lite he rolled down his window and ask me to race him on the freeway. iwas like hell naahhh!!!! not on the freeway there's no way im beating u on the freeway and my car is only made for sprint race not long runs.

anyhow yes i did smoke a 5.0 mustang the old school i believe its a 90's or something (boxy looking mustang) he had dual exhaus auto meter gauge silver that i noticed when i passed him (shift lites was on).....im thinking maybe because he can't drive. or maybe the weight ? cuz theres 3 of them. or maybe its the 323...
i have 1.8 bp n/a stock when i ran him i didn't even have my headers and intake yet....

i usually believe what people say when they post racing stories, but a 5.0 comeon. your smoking crack, they have 300 foot pounds of torque stock, and you say you have a stock 1.8. sorry man allite far fetched for me. i say this cause i drive a 5.0 almost as much as i drive my car. my roommate has one. its a 1990 gt. and yeah not even a contest. but whatever good kill i guess.

Dude the 5.0 blows.
I used to smoke em in my old 1.8 liter jetta.
I belive he could take one down.
5.0's are slow unless any aftermarket work is done on them to tap their huge engine.

I don't know. A few years back I was merging my Black Protege GT onto a highway red lining in every gear ( I was in a hurry). This chump in a Mustang would not let me in so I pulled behind him and passed on the left and just kept my foot planted. No matter how hard he tried he could not catch me. We we "somewhat" in excess of the speed limit.

I just kept thinking it must be a 4 banger but when we hit the city limits and I slowed to the speed limit he finally passed me showing off the dual tail pipes.

It was probably about an 1985 with a slush box or something. Maybe only running on 7 cylinders.

I don't care, that day he was owned by a 4 banger Protege.

i know if im racing a four cyl. or 8. I've been drag racing since i was 17. stang always smokes my *** but not the 95-98 4.6 liter GT mustang. there is no way a stock stang in that year will smoke my four banger single over head vtec civic hatch that pumps out 127 hp!!!
about the 5.0 boxy lookin stang yes they are fast but not as fast as the new stang.... the boxy stang only hit 14.7 on a quarter mile. and the 95-98 hit 15.2-15.4. and thats ******* slow for a stock stang. the new stangs are hitting 13's which i believe how it should run in the first place. i know this cuz i dont race my civic hatch against another civic i built it to disgrace the domestic v8! now that i got a new project MAZDA and hopefully by summer i would be able to get me a new tranny LX and hook up my NOS since its been sitting in my room w/ all the spider webs in it...

Did you say that your Civic could beat a 95-98 GT? Are you talking about a stock Civic? My friend has a '97 Civic EX. When it had a CAI and full exhaust my '93 LX could beat it. He just got a Greddy turbo kit and still got beat by a '00 Mustang GT. I know the newer GTs and the mid '90 GTs are different but I seriously doubt that a stock SOHC 1.6L could beat that year GT.

check this !
my 92 civic hatch cx had 127 hp and 109 lb of torque. weigh 2,084 . I was smoking a prelude sh stock. my cousins 2001 prelude. and smoked as SI i pulled up on him on my 3rd gear.
believe me this hatch pulls.
now i got a 323 that weighs 2,200 lbs, 125 hp, 114 lbs of torque.
it only weigh 100 lb more than my cx and have way better torque than my cx. how cant i not smoke a civic si ? when an si cant beat a prelude.(stock trim) o yeah add this up. i have headers, wires, intake and rx 7 maf. so add that up on my 323 hp.
my friend own a 89 CRX which weigh 1900lbs (hestripped the rear panels) close to 2000lbs. he has sohc vtec too and running 14.8 street tires with headers open exhaust , msd ignition, cold intake, cam gears. and with slicks he hit 14.1 thats fast. but then again he's got slicks on em. but 14.8 and street tires thats pretty quick for a $2000 car.

I am amazed sometimes by the amount of BS in some threads.

If you do not know about a car then you should not spread misinformation about them. The 88 to 93 5.0 were all FI and had 225hp and 302 tq. They varied in weight from 2900 to 3300 pounds depending on body style (LX 5.0 Hatch, LX 5.0, and GT). The 94 and 95 were also the 5.0 rated at the same HP except they were a bit heavier with the new body change. The 96-98 GTs all had 225 HP and 300TQ out of the 4.6 modular V8. They were also pretty heavy and were the slowest of the decade by only a small margin. The only 96-98 Mustang GT that ran is the 15's was the Auto and Convertable version. Many of the manual and hardtops ran in the mid to low 14's all day. In 1999 the 4.6 got a new head design that gave it 260hp and a better torque curve. They have been know to get well into the 13's. The fastest stock 99+ GT have been rumored as low as 13.6 with an awsome driver. 99 % of the drivers run low 14's. I ran a 14.2 at 99 MPH on my first run in the car. My brother ran a 14.4 in his 90 LX 5.0 when it was all stock except for flowmasters.

So I have a hard time believing your stock 127hp and no torque Honda was beating GT mustangs all the time. Most people that I have seen run Civics at the track with minor bolt ons like CAI and exhaust are running 16.5 to 17.5 depending on the driver. Even the slowest of the GT still runs more than a second quicker in the 1/4 mile. I could skip 2 in my GT and Still beat my Protege easy.

An integra type R can hit 14.7 stock.

I was just sharing my experience... o yeah i saw the guy today again but he was going the opposite direction. so i couldn't race him......anyhow i did race him like i said in my story i smoked him twice.

IM GOING TO SAY THIS AGAIN FOR THOSE WHO CANT UNDERSTAND! STANGS 99-UP ARE FAST.......96-98 SLOW ........93 -BELOW LX well b4 i did this post i thought it was fast but naahhh...14's for a V8 is slow get a $500 91 civic hatch put sohc vtec u'll run 14's all day all motor gas saver too....

I can do the same thing with a $500 Mustang add about 2K and I am running 11's all day. The aftermarket for the 5.0 is insane. Yes you can do it with a civic too, but in the long run $ for $ the Mustang will kill it. You can do it with a Camero too. The 350 in the Camero is the same design as 15 years ago, and parts are easy to come by. You may think that Stock V8s are slow, but why change to a high reving 4 or 6 when you have no torque. Torque is what makes the Mustang fun to drive. It has worked for the last 30 years why stop now.
