I suppose I don't mind handing over some of my hard earned money to you. Its just a matter of waiting for it to get bigger before I make it smaller again!

I hear ya...my wife is a full time student so I have to pay the bills AND try to stock new stuff all the time...it's rough. Needless to say my car is left untouched until this stuff starts selling and I recoup a lot of my costs.

UPDATE

Ok, a little background story here. This is a head to head comparison of two NA p5's. One has an intake, HKS full exhaust, Sparkco wires, and MP3 ecu. the other is a bone stock P5 with just the AEM plugged in. The bonestock P5 dyno'd 95-98whp on the stock ecu prior to this test. I'll translate the results below.....oh yeah, both cars were running 87octane...even the mp3 ecu powered car. The AEM was not tuned for octane it was only tuned to stabilize the fuel and ignition timing. No performance enhacements were made. The dyno was just done as a preliminary base map. This will show you just how horrible the stock ecu is tuned from the factory.

It bumps to 112whp / 122lb/ft on the stock P5 with 87 octane on the base map....I can only imagine the power this will put out with an aggressive tune for 93-96octane and the bells and whistles turned on.....pay attention to the smoothness of the power curve. THAT is what determines driveability.

ok here is the final graph

Ok, this is after the road tune where where they tweaked a few parameters but still only on 87 octane....this is the graph with the previous stated numbers and the ultra smooth power curve. Enjoy.

wow, thats a horrible reason to not want to correct the horrible factory ECU!!

The stock exhaust cam gear has 3 magentic pick-ups on it for data transmission to the ecu. The AEM will only see 1 pick-up. This is not a problem with the system, just the way it's designed. The cam gear is included in the price of the system and is very simple to replace. I plan on adding my cams at the same time of the ecu installation so it's no extra effort for me.

If you're hesitant because you've never replaced a gear before, don't worry. It's very straight forward and requires no special tools or a lot of mechanical knowledge....just simple nuts and bolts.

I promise you that the benefit of adding the AEM to your car will far out weigh the worry about replacing the cam gear!!

You gotta read up on the entire thread!! This is a custom ecu built in house by Wagner Motorsports. The box is a generic AEM ecu controller tuned and tested by Wagner..

The cam gear is also a custom generated piece. It's not an adjustable cam gear. It's only used to replace the magnetic pickups of the stock gear.

AEM ecu

What a great "fix"! Any idea how it would look on a sniffer test?

Have they done a similar one for a late model Miata. A friend is an SCCA SSB competitior and we're trying to figure out what to do to deal with the Z-4 BMWs they just allowed into the class.

the ecu WILL pass a sniffer test, but not an OBD-II test. The AEM basicaly overrides the stock ecu parameters so when the tock ecu realizes it's lost ignition control, fuel control, etc....it will TRY to display a CEL. The AEM will keep the light from illuminating, but the code will still be "pull-able" by someone with a scan tool.

I will ask about adapting the AEM for the miata, but I'm almost positiv that it CAN work in them. Of course no official testing has been done yet, but the AEM is fully transferable to almos any other vehicle on the road. You will basically pay $100 for a new custom harness for the miata and you'll recieve unlimited free tuning for it as well.

*EDIT* Be sure to go back and read post #1....some new great info...namely...BUILT IN DYNO!!

yeah...how do you like that?!?! I'm very interested now in seeing if I can get a molded dash monitor where my stereo goes have it linked to my laptop behind the dash and the AEM wired up to it to display values in real time....how awesome?!?!
