Canadian Price for mP5

Does anyone know what the Canadian dealer invoice price for the MP5 2002 is? I think my dealer is trying to scam me. He wants $22795 for standard, AC, moonroof which is even above the MSRP.

Help appreciated

The dealer I talked to wanted $23 000?? ish for the one I was looking at which was standard, moonroof, A/C, stereo...
Then I went to a dealer in Langley and he said he could cut me a better deal than the Kamloops dealer...

Check Mazda Canada's website. They post the latest prices. The quote you got may include PDI and freight.

Hey fellow Vancouverite. That's kinda steep. If you are serious to buy within the next mth or so, let me know, I'll get you hooked up. The price you were quoted seems higher than MSRP which is $19895 base, $1800 for A/C, sunroof, $800 freight & PDI. PM me man.

There is very little margin between MSRP and invoice for the P5 in Canada... if you can get it $1000 below MSRP then you're getting a pretty good deal.

Considering the 2003's are out now you should be able to get a pretty good deal on the 2002's. You should be able to get $1000-$1500 off the price of the car especially if there is one on the lot that you like. If they need to bring a colour you want in then you will get less of a discount. If you can find a demo on the lot with 3-5000 kms that's even a better deal as you'll save on the freight and pdi, but then again they have been driven and usually pretty hard. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information guys.

I did some more Internet research though most of the prices I found was in $US. On the US prices the profit marking on the base model MSRP seems to be %9.7. Assuming the Canadian markup is the same(BIG BIG assumption), this should trabslate to 19895*0.097=1929 CAD.

Does this sound right? Does anyone here know how much the profit margin on the MSRP is?

outback, us prices are highly irrelavant in terms of markup etc. The US and Canada are TOTALLY different market b/c of dollar value. So to a degree they price the car to scale. In the end however, the price canadian pay (after conversion to US) is much cheaper than what americans get. about the only thing you can use from US prices is "this price > another price, therefore this price > that other price in canada" lol

your quote looks pretty close to what the MSRP is and the best advice I could give you is to ask for at least $700 off the price, if they say no, leave. By the time you get home they probably have already called you. P.S. make sure you leave your number or you will be waiting for a while. If you don't have time to do face to face call and give details of what you want and if it is a decent salesperson they will get you that price. A good shortcut is to talk to the salesmanager and skip the middle man.

All of this was advice given to me from a friend that sells Mercedes and it completely worked.

Now for buying last years car the price will definetly drop but it is really up to the dealership to say how much for what car.

Good luck and always smile

when i bought my P5 from the dealer i was able to get a hold of the dealer book price using some manipulation. i have to check at home to see what it was exactly for the standard w/ moon + A/C. the price i paid for mine was $25K on the road after taxes + everything. i got the dealer to even throw in the hood & moonroof deflector, wheel locks, and cargo tray. not much, but it's free. when i get home, i'll look for the price and post it up for you.

Outback, check out http://www.carcostcanada.com. For a small fee, you can get the dealer invoice price (already mentioned here somewhere) and quotes from several dealers in your area.

90&00 Protege was correct in his numbers. The invoice price on my car breaks down to something like this:
Car $18,477
Package AF00 A/C & Moonroof $1,672
Freight & PDI $895
Air Tax $100

Total $21,144
I was able to get invoice + $700 from Wolfe Mazda on Boundary Road. That's about a 3.3% markup. Still better than the national average of 5-7%(according to CarCostCanada.Com) but I think I could have done better - just got tired haggling I guess. Also got a fair trade-in allowance and half-off an alarm with passive immobilizer.

The salesperson allowed my girlfriend and me to testdrive as many cars as we wanted for as long as we wanted - and he didn't even come along for the ride. 4 P5's (silver manual, silver auto, white manual, blue auto) later, I spot a black manual P5 parked behind a yellow one. I test drove that one for another 20 minutes or so and fell in love but I didn't show my love for the car during the negotiation process.

My tips: You can pretty much haggle on any number including the admin/documentation fee. Avoid talking about monthly payments or financing until you get a firm price on the car - you want to know the price you'll pay as if you were paying in cash. Avoid talking about your trade until you get a firm price on the car. Go in there with a "folder" of research material and a business calculator (to calculate the present value of an annuity and cost of borrowing of course) and they'll know you mean business and skip the sales pitch. If you have good credit, take advantage of dealer financing. I got 1.9% for 36 months back in June 2002 with no payments for 3 months! Don't forget to leave one foot "out the door" in search of other offers. Negotiate upwards from invoice price and not downwards from MSRP.

Good luck

re:Canadian price for MP5

Thank you for the information everyone,

MP5 Alive, the invoice info was extremely helpfull in finishing the deal. You were right on the money . One of the dealers I bargained with (not the guy I ended up buying from), actually showed me his invoice and they were exactly what you said, I also confirmed with the other two dealers I was dealing with.

I ended up buying at $21700+doc(175)+airtax(100)+env(20)+tax, but I got $4500 for my trade in, which was basically top of the trading range for my old car(3500-4500 trade in value, my expactancy was $4300). At which point there was only the $600 CAD the dealer was making plus whatever he makes from my old car(maybe 500-800CAD). Then I thought, this is fair for everyone. I tried your trick of throwing in the accesoires (LOL I got the wheel lock). I got a promise to get the roofrack at cost and paid $369 for the alarm. Well since this is your trick MP5Alive, I only did as good as I could for first time .

I totally agree with you to keep pushing untill you get what you want, because as soon as you think you got a good deal you are gonna get hit with things like documentation, and paying tax on the airtax, so it was worthwhile getting the wheel lock($85CAD) which eased my tax-on-tax and "documentation" pain a bit.

So there I am, picking up the car tomorrow. Give me a honk if you see a Grey Protege5 with a windsurfer in or on top of the car.

The funniest thing though, is that I am taxed on the Airtax, I ended up paying 114.5 for the 100 tax, just too funny.

Anyways, thank you everyone!.
