Edmonton: Caliper paint?

Well the uber paint job I did last got ruined by this winter. Strangely it is only the rear calipers that had problems, maybe something to do with snow and crap getting stuck between the steel wheel and the brakes...whatever.

So I am looking for good quality RED paint to repaint my calipers with. Last year I used Ford Red engine paint, which turned out to be really orangey, and obviously not very rugged. Any recommendations for something I can pick up locally? I would prefer non-spray paint, I'd rather brush it on.

Any tips for removing the flaking paint that is already there?

Jay

I would like to paint up my calipers this summer, so if somebody can suggest a type of paint (and maybe a good colour to go with my blue MP3 (laser blue, not dark midnight blue) I'm all ears

Another member in EPC used Tremclad and his calipers are showing wear just like mine are. So I'd say that tremclad ain't the be all end all.

so where is this speedville place? I assume it is in Calgary?

That would be me!! But I must say - I used the tremclad, but didn't prep the brakes like I should have (scrubbed with steel wool, cleaned till spotless etc..) basically just rubbed down with alcohol and called it good. I think if i would have prepped them properly, there might be even less wear than what's showing. Damn my laziness!!

I'm just gonna touch up the few spots that got worn down (looks far better than what happened to your brakes - mine's barely noticeable in comparison)

Tremclad owns!! 3 bucks for a little can that will last the lifetime of the brakes...

I'm not sure what the hell happened with mine. I THOUGHT that I prepaired them well. I think part of the problem was the paint was diluted (explains the color difference) and not as strong as it could be. But that wouldn't explain why the just the back had problems.

All I know is that I don't want to have to paint them again, too much of a pain in the ***.

I used Brake caliper cleaner and brake caliper paint. Mine still look good so maybe it makes a difference? I even have the smae winter rims as Jay so it must be working alright. I am changing back to my regular rims this weekend so I will have a look.

I bought the paint at JB's on Fort Road and Shane wil give you a deal there. It is called VHT Brake Caliper Paint.

I did notice that the paint on my dust shield is flaking off and there I just used regular auto body paint. I think this time I'll use a galvanize primer on it and repaint. Hmm, should not have done that shortcut.

Lots of work to do before the next show and shine. Mine engine looks like crap too.

What did the paint cost Chris? This is spray on isn't it? I'm hoping for something that goes on with a brush that I can find locally.

I'll have to do some looking...

Has anyone tried caliper paint? I think there are two types, spray and brush. Maybe that will do. I really dont know, never used it or know anyone that has. But it might be worth a try.

Gee sorry Jay, never got an email saying someone had replied.

As for the cost, I think I paid $8.00 per can at JBs and that is with our discount.

By the way, I checked my claipers last weekend when I changed my rims and they look fine. There are a few nicks but not too bad at all. I sprayed mine and put on 3 coats.

Because I am lazy I don't want to have to spray the calipers (taking everything apart, or the masking would be a pain). I am hoping for a brush on solution

Thanks Chris!
