Weather Question

I know this post probably belongs in a different form, but it's kind of a climate question, so I thought it would be best to get opinions from people who live in the same area as me.

My car was kind of driving a bit grouchy (a little shaky, and pinging a bit - hows that for a technical explination ) for a few minutes after I started her up tonight, and it was only 10C.. I think (hope) it's because she's pretty new (850kms).. but it got me to thinking since winter is coming.. at what temperature should I plug her in?

This might seem like a stupid question.. but I've had a car that wouldn't start if it was -20C and not plugged in, and I've had a car that would start at -30C no problems.
