Winter blows!
Since the weather has turned to **** in Edmonton (and Calgary I would assume) has everyone got their winter tires on yet? I was going to wait until is was a little colder but will probably go ahead and change them this weekend.
Winter sucks.
I do not look forward to trying to keep my car clean. What does everyone else do in the winter? I take mine to a wand wash.

no snow tires for me. not this year at least. i'm lucky in that i don't have to drive everyday. so, if it's snowing heavily, i don't drive. the main routes will be clear the next day.
as for keeping clean, i'll just run it through the touchless whenever i feel it's getting too disgusting.

I found out this weekend that with the factory all seasons my back end is a touch loose. I had to travel in that awful weather on Hwy 2 to Canmore on Friday night and it was absolutely miserable out there. I saw about 8 cars in the ditch and even a couple of roll-overs. I was travelling at 70-80 kmph and they had people still passing me. Their tires must have been better. **** me off though, picked up two chips in my windshield from guys passing and trowing up stuff on my glass. I will have to keep an eye on it so that it does not get bigger.
I ordered my new winter tires but there is a 6 week back order. At least JIm has my rims so now just waiting on tires. Oh well just drive carefully that's all.
As for washing, I go to a do it yourself place and that way I don't have any of that crap brushing perhaps damaging the finish. Only problem I found is that it never really gets it 100% clean but at least it takes off most of the crap.

That first rock chip is a bitch
The last couple of days are the first time I've driven my car in the snow with the dunlops, last winter I had the Arctic Alpins. WOW, what a difference. I'm looking forward to my winter tires now.

What are you getting for tires? 6 weeks...that's a long time.

All i have to say is paying $35 is a lot better than buying a new windsheild or having large cracks!!!

I got my winters put on a few days ago.. and it's awwwwesome.. I had no idea it would make that much difference.. with my "all-season" (yeah whatever) tires on.. driving was kinda scary.. but I went and did a lil 'off-roading' with the new tires at my parents acerage last night to test them out.. a hoot.. can still spin around a corner if you try for it, but very easy to pull out of..
I got umm.. arctic alpins I think??.. they're a little bit bigger then normal, but look half decent.. (aside from the silver bolts holding them on ).. makes me want black summer rims too

I used to have 4 seasons on my Gen 1 & they worked well in winter (at least Toronto winter). Of course I am not going to risk it with the z-rated Dunlops on my MP3.
I was told my many Pro5 owners that the Dunlops are not truly 4 seasons, but leaning towards the racing side. For a few hundred dollars over 2-3 winters, I think it's money well spent. I have never met a Pro 5 owner who regretted winter tires.

WAAAAAAHHHH , I want my winter tires. Everyone else has them.
I can feel how crappy the car drives on the "all seasons". At least I'll have my rims tomorrow but no rubber yet.
My gosh my car is dirty. I can barely stand to look at it. It's almost as if it was in some sort of off road rally.
Hey Dawn, maybe we should set up a track on your folk's acerage so we can all try out the tires .

As for keeping the cars clean, wand wash. I bring some of my own stuff with me and once the car's covered in soap (twice round), I go over it with a wash mitt, then soap once more, then rinse (no wax). Towel dry before I leave.

I doubt if I'll be as **** about keeping the Protege clean this winter. My wife drives it for work everyday, thus if it is not freezing out it will just get dirty the next day anyways.
We drove for 1 day in the snow this year on the Dunlops, it was scary. Put the winter wheels and tires (Yoko Guardex 600) on that night and it is a million times better. The SP5000's are not fit for winter driving. Period.
