5 people in car scrapes tires!!

Okay, On my '03 i have 17's with 215/45/17 tires, the first time i had 5 people in the car (all averaging 150lbs) the back driver side tires got scraped once when there was a bit of a dip on the freeway, but only once, and the rubber frayed a little bit on the outside where it got scraped by the fender.............anyone else had this happen???

Is your car dropped? If not then that's not a big deal.

well let me ask you this.....what wheels do you have on the car? what is the wheels OFFSET?

personally I would have gone with a 40 series 215 tire...as the 45 IS taller than the stock tires. this could be a contributor to your tires rubbing with three people in the back.

I have aftermarket wheels on my 5....they have a +48mm offset. I am running 215/40/17's and can load the car and even hit bumps and nothing rubs.

Well I have 205/40/17's on my ride, with 38mm offset wheels, and I lowered it quite a bit. Its kinda hard to tell from this angle but there is virtually no wheel well gap, which is ideal for me. I used to rub when I loaded the back down over big bumps and stuff on the freeway, but I rolled the fenders and the **** worked like a charm. I can have a couple fat asses chillin the back, and I got a sub box with 3 10's and amps and **** back there too. No rub ever for me, corners, bumps, whatever.

I think you mean +48 offset.. not +38.

No I mean 38

http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?w...wheelmodel=RS6

Or here's another example so you won't think that one website is a type-o

http://www.tiretrends.com/wheel_catalog.php3?wheelID=34

Uhhh so yeah I mean a 38mm OFFSET

I stand corrected.. its not everyday you see a P5 rolling on 18's dropped with a 38 offset.. did you modify anything to not get any rubbing?

Well they 17's, and I did roll my fenders. I gained quite a bit of clearance doing that actually.

Very nice.. did you roll them yourself or get a shop to do it? If you got a shop, how much did they charge you?

I did it. Its pretty easy actually. A friend showed me how to do it. No paint damage no nothing, its pretty painless. But I only had to do the back, the front is just fine.

I had the same problem with my 17x7.5 Elite Miami's, so I had the rear fenders rolled. It was easy and it doesn't scrape anymore.

grifter, if you have wheels with the proper offset and the right size tires...you can lower your car as much as you like and there will be no problems.

that's what i'll end up doing probably, i have no clue what the offset is and the website doesnt say for that wheel
The inside fender where the body bends towards the inside of the vehicle is directly above the outermost part of the tire, the dip i went on didn't seem like the worst one on that trip with the same people in the car, but i guess it was..........
