do snow chains ruin alloy rims?

i maybe planning a skiing trip up north some time soon.... so I was wondering if snow chains will ruin our rims? also are snow chains really like chains? also would I have to buy these or rent them? and how hard are they to put on? I don't plan on getting snow tires cause I live in Los Angeles....

for starters....I DOUBT you could find anyplace that RENTS snow chains....

can they ruin your alloys? depending on the ones you use they certainly could damange the finish.

are they really chains?? some are...some aren't....depends on the brand/style you get.

they are not that hard to install.....

well i live in Ohio, near cleveland GO BROWNS! ok sorry had to throw that in. But i live i guess in one of the 5 places on earth that gets affected buy lake effect snow and it sucks, not to mention i live in something called the snow belt wich compounds this problem, anyways unfortunatly here chains are illegal. but usually they are chains, the ones i have seen, and they can ruin our rims it isnt impossible for them to be a lil lose and nick the finish, just my $.02
