Angry Mazda 3 Rear Tire Wear

2007 M3, 2.3 with 25K miles. Just ate through the second set of rear tires!!! Issue is negative camber designed in to provide good handling.

This a very common problem with NO solution. Can extend tire life to maybe 20k miles by rotating tires at every oil change!

This is bullshit and my Mazda three will become a Subaru this weekend.

Where is an energetic class action lawyer when we need him.

Mazda 3 Gihad!

Note to Mazda 3 engineers....yes we LOVE great handling but we also require tire life of >40K miles!

we hear your issue, it's a problem on a few mazda models I think. Though I also think that this is adjustable, but the dealers can't adjust the alignment beyond the factory spec, so you may be able to do it on your own.

In any case good luck with the subaru - though those have piston slap noise when they are cold... and when you get an exhaust rattle look at the exhaust shields - that's their class actionable problem.

More on M3

Rear camber isn't adjustable on the 3!!! Lower control arms with adjustment are available from third parties..but have found little about actual experiences with them.

Today I said GOODBYE MAZDA...and added a second Subie Outback to the garage!! Mazda was unresponsive!

I can totally relate on this. Tire maintenance for Mazda 3's kinda expensive, this car needs constant tire change...messing with budget and all

I have 2010 M3 with 14K mile and all four tires (rotated once at 7K) had inner edges cupping worn causing roaring road noise and seat/floor vibration. Just had both the rear camber arms with the aftermarket ones, cost over $500. Drove about 100mi so far and it seems the problem is fixed. Let drive some more miles before I could say Yes! it's fixed!
Will keep you post later. Thanks.

In case you're not aware, there is a law firm investigating this problem (a potential class action? may be). Check out the address below.

Greetings - I made this same observation on a forum (not this one), and got totally shot down with "quit whining, it's a sports cars, blah blah blah..." glad to see others are standing up.

I will check out that fix thread above. And the class action too. I drive my 06 Mazda3 reasonably, I don't race anyone... and tires last about 18k. Yes, the rear camber is negative, I had the dealer tell me "that's what gives the car that zoom-zoom, ya know?" yeah, thanks pal, but I'd prefer if that angle was adjustable, so that *I* could decide if I want to dial in a little less zoom-zoom in order to save money-money on tires-tires...

off to look into a fix for my oh-six... cheers!

Smile really

I've got a 2007 Mazda 3s Grand Touring. Stock suspension height. Stock size tires. I put 30,000 mile warranty Sumitomo's on it and they now have 36,000 miles on 'em. Even wear side to side. They are getting thin in the tread area. But they have done their share of burnouts and corner carving. No problems whatsoever. I am reading what you all post; but my car has been flawless. I just finished installing Koni yellow sport shocks/struts/springs which lowered the car 40mm and the rear tires are leaning in at the top which will definitely cause wear. Since it's about time for new tires anyhow, I will be ordering James Barone racing adjustable camber arms to remedy the lean. More horsepower would be a welcome addition with these cars. And a better motor mount system. But other than that...a great car.

its good to know they aren't all set up for tire wear, then again lots of corner carving may have evened that out

Mazda 3 Rear tire wear (2010 Sport Hatch)

I bought an adjustable rear camber kit off eBay (set of 2) for $130, and had the local Mazda dealer install and complete a rear alignment for $250, setting the camber to 0. Have rotated the tires once and do not have any inside tire wear at all.

The dealer did acknowledge the rear tire issue but was not prepared to reimburse me.

wife has a mazda3s 2007 - has been a decent car but just bought our third set of tires for it and it has 65,000 miles. tires last no more than 30,000 miles. the set I just got rid of had a 60,000 mile warranty on them.

what is up with this car and tires. had a neighbor with a 2005 and got rid of the car because of this problem. she only got like 20,000 out of the two set she bought.

so the car is just over 5 years old and we have spent about 1000 dollars on tires. that is 250 a year additional cost of the car. we are really thinking of getting rid of the car just because of this problem but are hesitant because it has been such a reliable car as far as starting every time we want to go somewhere but come on this is ridiculous. it isn't like we bought a porche or a ferrari but I bet they get more miles out of their tires.

Mazda Ignoring me now

So I have the same issue with my 2011 mazda3 hatch. I just called mazda, and upon telling them my issue, they hung up on me. I called back and now I'm just stuck in the on hold world forever. I called several times again and it's like my number is blocked or same crap. No joking. I called from my cell, got through. Then same thing! WTF!?

Screw you buddy!!!
