Painting the rims?

I have a 2003 P5, is the color on our silver rims the natural color of the metal? Or it was painted on?

I was talking to a friend the other day, he told me he might take his rims to a body shop and let them spray/paint them into other color.
Does this work? I mean is this possible?
Will the color peel off quickly? Anyone try that before.

If this method works, I guess I might take mine to paint/spray into another color as well.
I have a laser blue P5, a golden/bronze color rims might look well on it.
Sort of like the color combination on a Subaru Impreza.

I believe powdercoating is the preferred way of changing the rim's color. I'm sure you COULD get them painted, but I'm not too sure about how durable it would be.
