A weird case of unbalanceable wheels...
Just wanted to share with all an odd experience I had on my other car - a Corolla with Michelin MX4's ( Canadian made tires).
After I rotated the tires, I took the car in to have the fronts balanced. Everything was alright, but when I drove the car, the whole front end would shake starting at about 110.
So, I had them rebalance the tires, but it got worse - the front end would shake starting at 90!. I actually had to take the tire tech out on the highway to prove I was not smoking something...
Then, they did road force balancing test to see if any cords were damaged, but found nothing. The tires are 4 years old, with ~61K km on them, never taken off the OEM rims.
When the tech was carrying one wheel back to the hoist, he shook it, and heard something rolling around in it! As I said, the wheels have never been taken off the rims, or punctured.
What this turned out to be was a whole bunch of powdered rubber *****, rolling around inside the tire - a dynamic disbalance their machine wouldn't account for. As soon as he removed them, and rebalanced the tire, the ride returned to perfect smoothness ( look, don't hit me, I know it's a Corolla. I said - it is my "other" car...)
The moral is - check for oddities they might not check for, before you accept the fact that you need a new tire.
