we did the 10K mi service @ the dealership (yeah, I know, I could do it myself, but I am paranoid about being within the warranty).
Just tell them that the oil change place did it. you don't have to be so "I have to have the dealer do it". You don't have a Honda. Mazda nice, Honda not.

Get over it; I 'll take my ride any damn place that i please. My point being, that OUR particular dealer's service dept. has been exceedingly responsive to any problem that has arisen. Yes, THEY were the ones who scratched the rims, but, (muted applause), they are getting us 4 NEW ones from the factory, with absolutely no hassle. If a Jiffy Lube scratched the rims, or I did it myself, then, I'd be SOL.

I thought you guys might be interested in the more-than-decent treatment I've received from the dealership...

BTW this has nothing to do w/ Honda or is there some coded info in my post that i am not privvy to?

I think he's just saying that Honda is very strict about where you can get your vehicle serviced.

well we did get the replacement stock rims from Mazda last week. All appears fine, but I was somewhat shocked b/c the service department told me it was a $1600 (US) mistake on their part.
I can't see the stock rims costing ~ $400 a pop! yeah, they had to remount the tires and balance the wheels, but that's only around $20 or so... for 4 tires.
Do you guys think that the stock rims are that expensive or is my dealer:
1) B.S.-ing
0r
2) rippling off mazada?

I was told that the stock wheels for a Protege5 go for around 600-650 canadian.

Cleanign Rims

I have found that a product called "greased lightening" mixed 1 part water to 1 part product works like magic on alloy wheels.....

You will be totally amazed at how this stuff melts the brake dust and road grime of your rims.....it also will clean the side wall of the tire like nothing I have ever seen.

Trust me, this stuff works in an amazing way!

Let me know what you think...

I have found the best thing to do is treat the wheels as you would the rest of the car.

Here is what I did:

1-Wash wheels with liquid car soap, using a wash mit.
2-Dry them.
3-Meguiars Paint cleaner.
4-Meguiars Polish. (This REALLY brightened up my wheels!)
5-Meguiars wax.
6-Dress the tires using Eagle-One.

They look great, and break dust (or other dirt) won't stick very easily. Now I just do steps 1,2 and 5 as part of washing my car. Probably do the whole procedure a couple times a year (I don't drive on these wheels in the winter).

What I have to ask is why in hell would you use a degreaser? I've yet to see grease on my wheels. The wheels are painted/clearcoated, why would you treat them any differently than other painted surfaces on you car?

Jay
Put the tire dressing on BEFORE you start using the paint cleaner/polish/wax. That way you won't have to worry about getting on a rim you just polished.

Jay,

Good points you made...After you clean your wheels (before you wax them) spray some of the stuff I mentioned on the wheels and watch black stuff oozzz off of them....you might think they are clean, but I'm sure you be amazed when you see the black stuff come off.

Sure, the rims are easy to clean as they are coated, but the wheels are a bit more difficult....

Check it out...

Thanks for your reply...

Eric...
