Question What SIZE winter tires??

so...... i am looking at tirerack.com for the sizes of winter tires they list for the protege ES. they are

195/55/15 and 205/50/16

do i HAVE TO run these sizes or are there other sizes i can get away with running safely? how much "smaller or bigger" can i go? i will mount them on steel wheels. thanks. looking to maybe finding a deal on ebay but i want to be sure to get proper sizing.

Should get a 40 width winter tire I think. Wider is better.

interesting, i've always been told that narrower in the case of snow tires is preferable.

I've read this countless times now as well.

Somebody used the analogy "pizza wheel cutting thru pizza"....as opposed to a rolling pin over pizza i guess.

I have 14" on my ES. And get them as narrower as you can.
