Wheel Help

Would this rim fit on my 02 p5

Offset: +40mm
Size: 17x7
Bolt Pattern: 5x4.5/114.3
Hub Bore: 67mm
Tread Size: 12mmx1.5

Also what is the average weight of 17's, I know that spme of the Volk Racing and Racing Harts are only 17 lbs. This one that i'm thinking of putting on is 23.5 lbs. good? bad? ideas?

That's heavy, what's the wheel?

that's not a good fitment. You want a +44 or +45 on the wagons. You might be able to run a 205/45 on that offset, but I'll check it first and then you decide.

Really what wheel is it and what are you paying? They used? I can get some crazy deals on new ****. Try me. hehe.

Check out the AWR Protege 5 Pace Car: http://www.awrracing.com/pages/pace.html
It uses Toyo Proxes T1-S Ultra-High Performance 215/35-18" tires, OZ F1 Racing 8"x18" wheels with 40mm offset, they will be switching to 7.5"x17". How are they running this offset yet you keep on suggesting like +44 or more?

Ammended statement for az, They must be rubbing, because that offset would rub on the outside more than interfering with the inside. Like you said they're switching to 7.5's and that's gotta be because they rub/poor fitment. I actually extracted this assumption from your own statement and the published offsets for OZ wheels.

You can buy the subzeros right now from them in a +45 offset and they'll fit. You don't need to get them from me. What I got is limited fitment for wagon guys who are interested in that wheel. Then you'll need a higher one.

I haven't sold wheels because I'm not trying to sell wheels. I want everyone to find what they really want and I'm compiling all this info. so that people don't miss out on a wheel by jumping into a decision.

Anyways, for those of you who autox you'll want a +50 7" to stay in that stock class and I found a nice one that's only 16.5 lbs and pretty cheap like the subzero. It's a multispoke design.

Man, I've been posting this info. for months now with the same stuff. I apologize for my french but I just had to empasize how important it is to stay within those offset limitations. I am sorry for venting like that. The way your question was phrased and the statement, "yet you keep suggesting," got to me.

I've seen that you've read most of my info and the explanations are all there. It just gets very frustrating cause I don't think that people understand what they might get themselves into when purchasing wheels.

I'm not here looking to sell wheels to everyone, I encountered this problem as a distributor on my own vehicle and knew it would be a good idea to inform other owners. I've offered to help people find the wheels they like in the right fitment and I don't always get the deepest deals on some of these things. I expect not to sell wheels to everyone, but I know that I'm helping someone make a good decision by giving this information out. You will still walk away being more educated about this than before and that makes me feel good.

Sometimes people need to be shrewd, I've been quite humble and the question of why I suggest the fitments I do gets a little old. Simply said they work without problems.

As a sedan owner you have a ton of options, so you'll be able to get whatever you want and there's plenty of good deals on the net. I'm not here to make money, there's no money in the knockoff department unless you stock 40 or more units on a single line. If you want a good deal and understand my advice then that's great. if I've helped out am offering you a savings and helping sponsor the forum then that's good too.

Take what you may from my info. it's all there and will continue to grow with or without your help.

as far as i knoe, that should fit, go check your wheel and make sure measurements are correct. there is some kinda way to check it out for sure. Im tryin to remember, ill get right back to ya.

If you own a Protege wagon/ Protege5, I will not reccomend putting a +40mm offset on the car.

If you wait a week, I will test fit the +40 with a 205/45/17, the only one you should do on that offset. Then I can tell you for sure whether or not it will rub.

The first set of wheels I test fitted were the G-racing suzus made in a 17,7 +40mm offset. I wrapped them with 215/40/17 Kumho Ecsta 712 tires. The vehicle was not lowered. When I loaded the vehicle with passengers or took sharp turns it would SEVERELY RUB. Granted it had a lot more travel with stock suspension and only happened under those conditions. Once the vehicle was lowered on those it SUCKED big time. THe most annoying thing ever. I purchased a professional fender roller and upon looking at it noticed that there's very little to roll and could result in a cracking of the paint if not done slowly with a heat gun. Since I am leasing this vehicle to do development I didn't want to risk it. I then took it to my Body Guy and asked him to do, he'd take liability hehe, but he denied me based on the same reasons.

In any case, I didn't get to fit the 205/45/17 on the +40 17,7 and therefore don't honestly know. I still think it would be damn close, but just might barely work.

For our stock tire size, a 215/40 would match the best and be the closest to the stock height along with more contact patch than the MP3's stock tire. Sounds like a good combination.

Looking at the back of your stock wheel won't tell you much unless you are putting the same width wheel or physically do the front and backspacing measurements.

PROTEGE5 FITMENT GUIDE: MP3's have different O.D. on their tires, so this will not apply. They can use a slightly lower offset as well.

17" sizes

7" wide wheel with +40mm offset, risky but possible with 205/45. Will tell you this week.

7" wide with +44 or higher, can fit the GOOD 215/40/17.

7.5 wide will require a +48 or higher offset to fit a 215/40/17

18" sizes

Same rules apply, except you're forced to run a 215/35/17, therefore a +40 will not work.

With a 7" wheel you can go +45 or higher, OZ Superleggera 18
With 7.5" wheel you will need a +48 or higher, all developments pending, except for those Japanese forged wheels and three piece custom wheels, i.e. VOLK and Fikse.

I hope this clarifies things for the P5 owners.

As for the previous generations, I can't say exactly but it seems from my research that all the 4 luggers can fit a +40 7" width without a problem. I believe O.D. on the first and second gens is smaller than the 3rd gens and tire sizing would go as such:

205/45/16
205/40/17
215/35/18 - slightly oversized.

It should be this way for the first gens, the seconds and thirds may have the same tire sizes stock. I dunno, don't own one I don't run into them for wheel apps.

I really interested in getting these wheels and if the 40 offset is not goign to work then i have to go back to the drawing board.

Also forgot to tell you guys my car is also lowered with Racing Beats, so it's about 1" front and back.

VERY GOOD decision. Stay away from that offset and please contact me as I may save you a lot of time by simply telling you what will work, from which hopefully you'll find something you like.
