wheel/tire question, it's not in the FAQ or in Rishie's post....

My car as you guys know, is like a mix between a P5 and a 2000 protege DX, I want to know what wheel/tire combo would make it look better and give it better handling. Here are the stock specs:
Rims: 14 x 5.5 JJ.
Tires: 185/65/14.
It has a 4 lug pattern.

I want to get either 16" or 17" wheels and also I want them to be wider than the stock ones, they look too damn thin to me. I asume it has the same space as a P5, how can I tell?

thanx.

The P5 has less space in the rear wheel wells.

17's are fine if, in a 7 width you get at least a 40 offset, or in a 7.5 width you get a 48 or so offset. Both are much wider than your stock.

With the sedans your minimum offset in the rear would be a +42 on a 7" width. The +40 might work if you roll the fenders.

With the P5 +45 on 7" wide is the minimum. I would definitely suggest 16" or 17". 16" has the potential to give you more performance due to less weight/rotating mass. But 17's aren't far behind. As kinkaid mentioned on a 7.5" width you'll want a +48 for sure.

I'll be back in a week from the SEMA show. Hope I can help more then.

Thanks, Rishie

I think we have to bear in mind that JAC has an Allegro, not a P5. So I am assuming he basically has our body work with the suspension of the Dx/Lx 4 lug. Probably with rear drums. Unlike anything we see here in the States or canada. In US spec. the OEM offset for the Dx/Lx is 45 mm while the Es/P5 is 50 mm. Also the hub ring diameters are different for these 2 US model ranges. His car has many different criteria from what we have on the US spec cars. JAC, if I were you I would wait for Rishie to return from SEMA and let him help you out then. He may need to get some more detailed info/measurements of what your car has to assist in recommending sizes and offsets for your particular vehicle. Wheels and tires are a major investment. You'll want to make sure they will work properly before you plunk your money down.

Yeah, that's the reason I'm asking and yes. it does have rear drums.
I'm not in a hurry by any means, I'm putting all my $ on the sound sys right now but I want to start doing my homework so that when the time comes to get the wheels Ill have the knowledge to make a good buy, like you said "Wheels and tires are a major investment".

Thanx for your replies, if you need more info about my car please tell me.
